April 2013we found an RV on the Lazy Days web sight that I was interested in, priced was marked out as always so I sent them an e-mail to inquire what the price was. I was contacted by a lady that wanted a lot of information about what I wanted and when I was going to purchase. Within a couple of hours I was contacted by one of their sales reps who told me that they were in the process of taking a vehicle in on trade, the owners were still moving out and he would get me the specs and photos. He stated this was a great deal and I needed to give him a deposit right away to secure this coach until I had an opportunity to look at it, my deposit would tie the unit up for me. I told him I was not going to move that fast I wanted info on the coach. The rep then sent photos and specs to me again requesting I give him a deposit. After reviewing the photos my wife and I decided this was not the coach we wanted.

I sent the sales rep a long e-mail describing what we were interested in but I did not hear from him again until I called him about another coach that we had heard from an owner that they were trading in. He could not find any info on the trade in but he had another coach just like it that was being traded in that day and I needed to send him a deposit to secure the coach. I went through the same scenario again and again he sent me photos and specs on a coach that we were not interested in. I sent him another e-mail describing what we wanted with no response. Lazy Days did call me and asked if I was happy with the service I received from the sales rep and the F&I manager also called to offer some information on financing that I had asked about, very responsive with a rate and estimated payments.

On 6/10 my wife called LD to get some info and told them that in all fairness they should know we had been working with this sales rep. The sales rep immediately called her back and again had a coach that was perfect and we needed to tie it up. He then called me, I had to call him back and in the mean time he sent me photos of a coach that was being traded in and if I was interested in it I needed to send him a deposit to tie it up. He always was quick to explain the deposit was refundable if I did not want the coach after I looked at it. Well low and behold this coach was exactly what we were looking for although it was a little more than I wanted to pay. I made the sales rep and offer and he said that they could not take my offer but I could by the coach for XXXX dollars. I agreed to pay the price, explained that since I was 400 miles away it would be the following Saturday before I could get there and could they have it ready so my wife and I could leave with it on Sunday if everything was as represented, he said that he would have it ready for us on Saturday. I gave the sales rep a deposit via credit card, he told me that I now had the right of first refusal I also told him I would need some financing for about 50%. About 2 hours later I was contacted by the business manager to get my financing info and he also sent me the buyers order that showed the sales price, my deposit and the VIN and said he would have to call me back the next morning with the interest rate.

My wife was so excited that we had finally found the coach we wanted she could not sleep that night. When I went to work the next morning I began rearranging my calendar for Friday so that we could leave in plenty of time to be in Tampa early Saturday morning. About 9AM I get a call from the sales rep with โ€œnot so good newsโ€. He stated that another couple was looking at the coach when he went to put the sold sign on it and that later they had decided to take the coach and therefor my deposit was not honored and that he was going to credit my credit card.

My wife and I both have sold big ticket items for many years both in the aviation and marine industry and have never heard of such a practice. When we take a deposit and the buyer agrees to pay the asking price it is a deal unless contingencies are made at that time. If another buyer then wants it you then take a back up deal but evidently not with LD. If you run into this scenario while dealing with Lazy Days in Tampa beware, you may think you have a deal but if someone comes along willing to pay a little more you will probably be disappointed. Needless to say our experience with LD Tampa and Joe Myers is less than desirable and I think very misleading on the part of LD.

The same thing happened to us. A deposit means nothing to them.

I will not be giving them my cash. :(

Update: Joe followed up with a phone call and said he would like to continue to send me info if I was interested. I explained that I thought we had found another RV but if it did not work out I would be willing to look a deals they may have.

The next weekend we went to Tampa to purchase another RV from another dealer. This was not quite what we were looking for so we passed. After driving 500 miles we decided to go to Lazy Days just to see for comparison. Called Joe Myers and he was on vacation but took my call and hooked me up with Jason Brunner his partner.

When we arrived Jason was waiting for us and immediately began working with us to insure we found the right RV at the right price. We were overwhelmed at the selection and treated like royalty and did find a very nice RV, LD accepted our offer and we closed the deal that day, had to come back and pick up later. We returned 30 days later, the RV was set up in the delivery area and we had the weekend to inspect and work out any bugs.

Lazy Days worked hard to make up for the first impression and Joe Myers and Jason Brunner were very nice to work with as well as Dana Smith in the delivery. I will go back to LD again, still do not like the way the first deal turned out but things have a way of working out for the best much of the time.
